To stop future junk mail:
Write a letter to the Mail Preference Service
and ask them to remove your name from future mailing lists. Be sure to
include all names in your household that are currently receiving mail. eg
(Mrs. John doe, Jane Doe, J.M. Doe, Jane M. Doe)
All variations of your name and the names of other family
members are necessary as they are matched with your address and sorted by
computer. You may want to make a list over a few weeks of the different
ways your junk mail is addressed so that your efforts have the greatest impact.
SEND REQUEST TO:
DIRECT MARKETING ASSOCIATION
MAIL PREFERENCE SERVICE
P.O. BOX 9008
FARMINGDALE, NY 11735-9008
The Mail Preference Service's updated list is distributed
nationally four times a year so it may take as long as 3 months before you
notice a reduction in your mail flow. This effort will have the greatest
impact on reducing future mailings rather than reducing the junk mail you
presently receive. It should eliminate about 3/4's of future promotional
mailings going to your address.
Also, this action only reduces the flow of mail coming from
National lists. Local mailing lists (Community, Statewide, etc) will not
receive a notice of your request to eliminate your name from the direct mail
association. You will have to contact the senders directly. |
