Are you:

  • Inquisitive about community projects?

Then, we are interested in you!

Join our Youth Forestry Council to plan and implement urban forestry projects in our Greenville parks.  You will be guided by several leaders from town committees as you work as a team to make decisions.

If you are interested in making a difference in Greenville, join us at our next meeting or e-mail questions to urbanforestry@new.rr.com. We accept new members at any time.  Our meetings are scheduled from 7p.m. - 8:30p.m. one Monday a month as follows for 2008:

        March 17th            April 7th              June 2nd

        July 7th                  August 4th           September 15h

        October 6th           November 3rd     December 1st

We have several ideas for projects from our last meeting, in addition to some tree planting for the Lion's Park and the new Field of Dreams park.

This event is partially funded through an Urban Forestry Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Greenville wins another award! And another!

It's the 2008 ISA Gold Leaf Award for "Outstanding Landscape Beautification Activity"!

And.....it's the "2008 Project Partnership Award" from the Wisconsin Urban Forestry Council!

Greenville has won BOTH of these awards for the substation project at the corner of Julius and Wisconsin Avenue. This project was completed by partnering with WE Energies and through grant funding from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.  Stone was donated by a local quarry to help commemorate the Yellowstone Trail.  Led by Steve Nagy, this project provided a demonstration area to other Wisconsin towns on how to beautify a substation in their community.

Urban Forestry...

An Invitation...

... involves the planting and care of trees and shrubs in an urban setting.

This includes trees and shrubs in:

  • people's yards

  • public parks

  • existing natural areas

  • commercial landscapes

  • along streets & roadways

Why Trees?
Trees restore the air we breathe, provide shelter and sustenance to wildlife, delight our senses, and sooth our souls.  Why not?

Greenville is a fast growing community.  This means many farm fields have been converted to lawns.  But wait!  Why not plant a forest instead?

Would you believe that a bare farm field can be transformed into a wooded site in just a few short years?

... to get involved!

The Urban Forestry Board provides leadership to our urban forestry volunteers.

We invite you to contribute and benefit from working with your neighbors as we go about putting the green in Greenville.

You can get involved by:

  • becoming a volunteer on the board or for planting projects.  come to one of our meetings to see what we do.  We meet on the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall

  • request a speaker for your next civic or business meeting to inform others about how they can help plant more trees in our town

  • donate a memorial tree or bench along the recreational trail

  • donate towards the planting of more trees in our community

  • provide us with your suggestions or feedback

Greenville is a Tree City USA due to help of many local volunteers.
