Greenville Sanitary District
When
was the District formed?
The Greenville Sanitary District was formed in 1983 with a
small amount of customers served by sewer and water. This area was in the
vicinity of the Outagamie County Airport. The first water tower was erected just
east of the airport on Cty Hwy CB in 1986. In 1985, the district was expanded to
include sewer service only to areas in the heart of Greenville.
Where do we draw our
water from?
Our wells draw water from the St. Peter Sandstone Aquifer.
Our system pumps 400-450 thousand gallons of water on a daily basis. We
have two operators that are certified by the WI Dept. of Natural Resources to
keep our system running smoothly.
Hardness and Fluoride
We treat our well water with chlorine to keep it free from
harmful bacteria, and we also filter out the iron. Due
to the hardness of our water (340 parts per million or 20 grains per gallon),
which puts us in the "extremely hard" category - we do recommend the
use of a water softener. We add sodium silicate, which helps to coat
the inside of the pipes and to control the leaching of metals such as copper or
lead from the fixtures into the water. Because
of numerous requests, the municipal water was fluorinated in 1998. We maintain a
level of 1 part per million. All of the
products that we use are monitored on a daily basis and in turn reported to the
Department of natural Resources on a
monthly report.
How do we
bill?
We currently bill monthly. This helps to maintain cash
flow and helps us to monitor the total water usage. We have reports to
file and need to account for the amount of water used. This monthly
billing allows us to do that effectively.

Where can I make my payments?
Payments for sewer and water bills can be made
by mail or for your convenience, look for the red fire hydrant inside the first
set of doors at the Town Hall. This hydrant is checked daily. If paying in
cash, please have the correct amount or the balance will be applied to your next
bill. Payments may also be made at the M&I Bank in Hortonville or on
West College Avenue, or check with your own bank to see if they offer online
bill payments.
Summer Sprinkler
Credit/New Lawn
Keeping the green in Greenville will be less costly for residents in the
Sanitary District during those hot and dry summer months.
The Town Board has given approval to the Sanitary District to replace the
“new lawn credit” with a “sprinkler credit” which will be given to most
residential customers (credit will not be available to customers that have
retained their private wells for outside watering or to commercial or industrial
accounts). Credit will be given for usage during the summer months of June, July
& August only. The credit will be based on each customer’s highest winter
usage plus 25% (to allow for extra showers, etc. in summer).
Please note that the credit will be given for sewer usage only, water
usage will still be billed as normal.
My bill is abnormally
high
If your water bill seems abnormally high, check all your
fixtures for leaks. This generally is the cause. If no leaks can be found, call
the office and we will send a Town employee out to investigate.
What do I do if I am
planning on moving?
Please notify the Sanitary district at least 7
days in advance of your move. We will then be able to schedule a final
meter reading so that a final bill can be issued and the water and sewer account
can then be placed into the new owner or tenant's name. Renters: Be
aware that the sewer and water account will be kept in your name until the last
day of your lease, even if you move out early. As long as you are
responsible for the property (lease) you are liable for the utilities.
Tax roll transfer of
delinquent water and sewer billings.
The end of summer is the time to catch up on any past due
balances on sewer and water billings. Wisconsin State Statutes give the
Town of Greenville the right to transfer any past due water and sewer billings
to the homeowner's property tax bill. Each year all accounts are reviewed
on October 1st. If there is a past due balance with a history of
non-payment, this amount is transferred to the homeowner's property tax bill.
Landlords: If you have a renter who has a past due balance on their
account, it is your responsibility to make sure that it is paid up by October
1st. If it is not and your tenant has a history of nonpayment with
the Sanitary District, these charges will appear on your property tax bill.
Please note that landlords may call at any time to request the status of their
tenant's accounts.
We
continue to maintain & expand our system
In our continuing efforts to maintain a safe and dependable
water supply, it may be necessary to make improvements to the water
system. As demands on our current system continue to increase, we have
gone ahead with the construction of the new municipal well #4 and it's treatment
facility. After a few delays, construction is nearing completion and we
expect our new well and treatment facility to be fully operational and on line
in the Spring of 2005. At this time, the rehabilitation of well #2 remains
on hold until funding becomes available. Please keep in mind that in order
to address these or similar improvements as they are made, rate adjustments may
be necessary.
