Park Planning

Park Planning

The Park Commission along with Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department staff are responsible for the planning of the development and maintenance of the Village’s parks and recreation facilities.  Many tools are used in when planning including meetings, surveys and comments.  Citizen input is vital for successful planning.  That’s why we need to hear from you.  To provide your input you can attend a Park Commission meeting, fill out one of our periodic surveys or send us an email. Remember, we won’t know what you’d like unless you tell us.

Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan:
A Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP) is a document that provides guidance for future parks and open space development and acquisition that are intended to improve the quality of life for  residents.  Proper implementation of this plan, over time, will provide the Village with a park and open space system that is designed to meet the needs of the citizens both in types of facilities and distribution of those facilities.  The CORP is typically updated every five years.

2020-2024 Update: The Village of Greenville is currently in the process of updating the Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan for the 2020-2024 period. This project is heavily reliant on input and ideas from the citizens of Greenville.  Materials developed during the update, and other sources of information, will be posted here for public review, consideration and comment when available.  Check back often to review new materials.   If you have any  thoughts or ideas about the future of Greenville’s Parks and Recreation opportunities and what the CORP should address, please share them with Tony Nowak, Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry at

2006 “Field of Dreams” Master Plan:
In 2006, the Village of Greenville formed a committee for the purpose of creating a master plan for the 75 acre parcel acquired in 2004 dubbed Greenville’s “Field of Dreams”. Over a period of about one year the committee used meetings, a survey and several public listening sessions to draft a plan for this future park. The Master Plan calls for a vast array of facilities including baseball/softball fields, soccer fields, tennis, basketball, trails, a nature area with a constructed wetland and a homestead gardens.  2017/18 Update: Due to changes to the property and the needs of the community, a committee was formed for the purpose of reviewing the Sports Complex Master Plan and exploring any changes that may need to be made. Through a series of meetings, a survey and community input, the committee determined that the Village should hire a consultant to complete an update to the Master Plan. The Village contracted with Rettler Corporation to prepare an updated Master Plan for the park with adoption in early 2019. Public input is welcomed and encouraged throughout this process. The original Master Plan can be viewed above and the information and documents below will be updated as the process progresses.
