Geographic Information Systems

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Greenville GIS staff is to support the activities of the Village and its citizens by providing and maintaining accurate, current and complete geospatial data. We strive to increase operating efficiency by providing administration and departments with data analysis tools for decision making.

What is GIS?
Geographic Information System (GIS) software captures, manages, analyzes, and displays geographically referenced information.

Greenville utilizes Esri’s ArcGIS technology to provide the residents access to general maps as well as to efficiently and effectively provide infrastructure data to employees. This helps employees update current assets and collect new data. The technology reduces operating costs, time and labor-intensive tasks, and improves budgeting and maintenance programs.

Greenville received a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award at the Esri International User Conference in San Diego in 2014 for its vision, leadership, hard work, and innovative use of Esri's GIS technology. In 2018, Greenville also received WLIA's Government Achievement Award. This award is given to a municipal, town, county, regional planning commission, state, federal, or tribal government or consortium that has demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following areas: innovative and efficient use of resources (best "bang for the buck"), sustainable development of critical local, regional, or statewide geospatial datasets, implementation of creative cooperative agreements, creation of innovative applications and information services that improve the delivery of government services to citizens.

The GIS staff maintains data sets such as zoning, ward districts, street trees, water and sanitary infrastructure, street signs, trails, Tier II hazardous materials facilities, and stormwater BMPs. They also utilize parcel and address data from Outagamie County.

GIS software helps answer questions and solve problems by looking at this data in a way that is quickly understood and easily shared—on a map!
