| What
Parks Are Located in the Town? |
Within the boundaries of the Town are three parks Community Park,
Jennerjohn Park and the Lions Park.
Community Park
Community Park is located at the intersection of Highway 45 and 76. It is approximately
15 acres in size. It is a constant hub of activity in the summertime. The park was built
and furnished by the service clubs and donated to the Town. There are kitchen facilities
in a large shelter building, tennis courts, basketball courts and play equipment. This
park is great for larger gatherings but will accommodate small ones also.
The park has four ball diamonds, one of which has lights. On a summer evening, the park
is full of activity as over 500 youths participate in the Greenville Youth Sports program.
GYS provides for tee ball, girls softball, little league, pony ball and a junior Babe Ruth
team.
Rent: Both the east (open side) and west side (enclosed side) of the pavilion are
rented out with the kitchen situated in the center of the sides. Just one side can be
rented for $50 or both sides for $100 and the parties share the kitchen facilities. Town
Residents can begin booking rentals on September 1st for the following summer.
Rentals are open to the general public beginning January 2. Call the Town Hall for
bookings.
Jennerjohn Park
Jennerjohn Park consists of 23 acres of land and is located off of Rickey Lane with
access from Parkview and Ridgeway Drive. Jennerjohn is more of a "family oriented
park" with a small shelter facility with kitchen facilities. This is ideal for
smaller groups. There is a baseball diamond, volleyball court (bring your
own net), and play equipment available. During the
winter months, ice skating and sledding are popular in the park.
Rent: Rent for the park is
$50. Reservations for the following summer can be
made starting on September 1 for Town residents and January 2 for the general public. Call
the Town Hall for bookings.
Greenville Lions Park
In 1996 the Greenville Lions Club purchased 58 acres of land and
donated it to the Town of Greenville. It will be developed into a family recreation area
featuring a Wisconsin agricultural theme. A unique combination of natural wildlife areas,
sports fields, educational centers, picnic and play areas, an amphitheater and much more
will set the stage for season after season of learning, fitness, exploration and fun for
visitors of all ages. There is a seven acre woods and a marsh pond and prairie restoration
area. In a few years, this area will be loaded with many kinds of prairie
plants (52 types of seed have been planted from 0 - 10 feet tall). There
are at least 14 different types of wildflowers growing along the trail. The park is located on the northwest corner of the intersection of Highways 45 and
96.
This park has changed by the week over the
years thanks to the Lions Club.
The Army Reserve "Charlie Company" has worked with the Lions and
have committed to excavation work in the park every other weekend for a number
of years. They have cut in roads, and a excavated a pond. In late 2001 an amphitheatre was
constructed by "Charlie Company". It made its debut on June 21,
2003 when the Lions Club presented the musical group the "BoDeans".
Over 7,000 people attended this concert. In 2004 the band
Lynyrd Skynyrd made it's appearance and in 2005 Montgomery Gentry performed.
In 1998 play equipment, a learning circle, hiking trail and a shelter
building were installed. The park was officially dedicated during the 1998
sesquicentennial celebration with the unveiling of a sign "Schuelers
Woods".
In 2000 a shelter building was constructed
for small groups. This shelter was not rented out initially due to the
continuing work being done by the Army Reserve. The
building is being rented out on selected weekends when the Army is not working
there. There is a higher rental fee charged for this shelter along
with a contract. Fees currently for this large shelter are $500 for the
pavilion, $250 for the kitchen and a $100 deposit. Rental of this facility
must be approved by the Park Commission. Additional fees may be due
depending on the type of event.

Winter Park Activities
A sledding hill is available at Jennerjohn Park and is a very
popular destination on a snow day. Jennerjohn Park is also good
place to do some cross country skiing. We don't have any marked trails
there but you are welcome to ski at your pleasure. We also have a marked
cross country ski trail available at Lions Park. The trail loops around
the prairie, winds through the woods and runs down the amphitheater and back.
Lions Park is also a nice place to take a walk and observe nature on a pleasant
winter afternoon. If you're looking for some ice skating, we set up a
small ice rink at Community Park underneath the pavilion. This activity
depends heavily on the weather. The rink is open and lit from 4 p.m. until
10 p.m.
Snowmobiling is NOT permitted in any park or on any
trail.
